Wellington residents were dismayed as the new new year came in and Andy’s Grill & Bar permanently closed. At least, that’s what everyone thought.
The Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB held it’s annual Chamber Golf Classic at the Wellington Golf Club last Friday afternoon. Twenty-two teams hit the course for the 4-person scramble with a shotgun start.
In the early 1900’s, the Wellington Ice Plant and Cold Storage business on South G Street helped local residents stay cool by producing 30 tons of ice every day. The problem? Ice melts, so homes and businesses during that era needed a new block of ice delivered to them each day to keep things cool.
This week marks the beginning of a 3-week camp geared towards STEM education and held on the Cowley College Sumner Campus. The STEM camp is hosted by Learning Exploration and Application for Prospective Engineering Students (LEAP’S), K-State and brought to students across the state by the Department of Defense.

NDGA National Glass Museum Manager, Deb Mansch, put the final touches on a new window display of beautiful glass pitchers donated to the Museum in memory of children that have departed this life. The idea for establishing the collection began at Washburn’s San Antonio Glass Show in February of 2009.

The Compost Site is available for the disposal of brush, straw, weeds, plants, grass and leaves containing sticks, tree limbs, stumps, and/or bamboo. Material should be dumped directly next to or on the existing pile, removing all plastic bags prior to dumping.
As a reminder, Street Closing requests should be submitted 2 weeks prior to the City Council meeting where they must be added to the Agenda to be considered for approval. For example, requests for 4th of July block parties should be submitted 2 weeks prior to the 2nd City Council meeting in June (June 20th).
