U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran seeking overhaul of U.S. document classification system

U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran renewed a bipartisan campaign to overhaul the U.S. government’s outdated, expensive system of handling sensitive information to strike a balance between what ought to be withheld and disclosed in the national interest. Moran, the Republican senator from Kansas, said the federal classification system had to be changed to reduce zealous classification, prevent mishandling of secrets, promote better use of intelligence and enhance public trust. He was among sponsors of a pair of reform bills with U.S. Sens. Mark Warner, D-Virginia, John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Ron Wyden, D-Oregon.

It’s Been A Year

American author and entrepreneur, Seth Godin, travels the world talking about how “tribes” give “ordinary people the power to lead and make big changes”. He argues that it’s innate in people to try to change something they think needs to be changed or improved.

Careers in Wellington

Career day was in full swing in downtown Wellington on Friday. Wellington elementary school students from Eisenhower, Lincoln, Washington and Kennedy were all in attendance. The young minds clearly enjoyed being out of the classroom and learning more about the different careers available in their hometown.

City Council Meeting May 2, 2023

During Audience Participation, Jason Newberry, Assistant City Manager of Utilities and Jeff Porter, City Manager recognized Wellington Utility Department employees for achieving a Platinum rating from the American Public Power Association’s Reliable Public Power Provider Program. The city has held a Gold rating for the last 3 years and achieved the Platinum rating for the first time this year, joining only 3 other communities in Kansas to achieve this level of excellence.

Winter Wheat Worries

Recent rainfall has not been enough to reduce the anxiety for local Sumner County farmers and ranchers. At most, some parts of the county received 2 inches of rain while other areas less.
