What would you do with $1,500? Anna Ewing, WHS Sophomore, plans to invest it in her bakery business, The Bakery Girl. At the BIG Idea Business competition at Wichita State University, Ewing was awarded 1st Place and with that honor came the venture capital award.

Learning With Robots

Washington Elementary students visited the Cowley College Sumner Campus last Friday to learn more about programming and operating various robots. First Grade Teacher Amy Jenkins coordinated with the College to host a learning session in the morning and afternoon.

What began as a Face-Book group to help Kansas farmers and ranchers sell their products to nearby friends and families during the pandemic has evolved into a website that now sells farm grown products to thousands everyday.

April City Council Notes

The April 4th Wellington City Council meeting began with a request for an approval to amend the agenda to include a third report of city officials regarding a street closing request that came in late. It was approved unanimously.

April 2023 BOE Notes

Brett Miller from DCS presented three HVAC bids for school district buildings using ESSER funds. The three bids came from South Central Mechanical out of Wichita, US Engineering out of Wichita and Waldorf-Riley Heating and Cooling. Waldorf-Riley’s bid was unusually low in Miller’s eyes, which brought concerns of accuracy and quality of service. Miller suggested spending the extra money and using US Engineering for their quality of reputation of service. Tom Henning motioned to accept the HVAC bid from US Engineering. Brandon Earls seconded, the motion carried 4-2.

WHS Service Day 2023

The weather was beautiful on April 12th and students from Wellington High School divided into small groups and ventured throughout the community to volunteer during WHS Service Day. The idea behind Service Day is to provide kids with an opportunity to volunteer on local projects to help them develop a sense of pride and responsibility in their community.
