Wellington Walks with Kansas

Put on your best walking shoes and tie those laces! Registration is open for the Walk Kansas program conducted through the Sumner County K-State Extension Office. Physical health, nutrition and hydration are all key elements bringing Kansans together during this 8-week program.

This week marks the beginning of Severe Weather Preparedness Week. March 6 - 10, the National Weather Service, (NWS), will be focusing on different weather topics including Preparedness on Monday, Tornado Safety on Tuesday, Lightning Safety on Wednesday, Hail/Wind Safety on Thursday, and Flood Safety on Friday.

Congratulations to the following WSU fall graduates from Wellington: Marisa K Black, Bachelor of Music Education, PK12 Music-Special Music Ed, Summa Cum Laude and Bachelor of Music, Music Performance-Instrumental, Summa Cum Laude Michael R Hollman, Bachelor of Business Admin., Management, Cum Laude Jessica D Nefzger, Bachelor of Arts in Education, ECU/Elementary Educ Apprentice, Cum Laude Lyndsay N Pletcher, Master of Business Admin., Business Administration Brandy L Turner, Bachelor of General Studies, General Studies Psychology Undergraduate students who have attained a grade point average of 3.9 out of a possible 4.0 received the summa cum laude award; those with an average of 3.55 received the magna cum laude award; and those with an average of 3.25 received the cum laude. .

Kansas Talking Books Week

The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) just celebrated its birthday. It was on March 3, 1931 that Congress passed the Pratt-Smoot Act, appropriating funds for the creation of an accessible library for the blind. Since then, this service has expanded to include those with visual impairments, physical disabilities, and reading disabilities, and has partnered with libraries across the country to support patrons.
