The Crusader Christmas concert got the audience into the holiday spirit with performances from the Wellington Middle and High School choirs including The Crusader Singers and Concert Choir. Directed by Jennifer Ault and accompanied by Lynn Jenkins the concert was an uplifting mix of perennial tunes and fresh, newer favorites.
What’s better than having Christmas cheer brought to you by a group of young, smiling faces? Maybe getting cozy and reading a book with them afterwards and getting a homemade Christmas card too! That’s exactly what the third graders from Eisenhower Elementary School did for the residents of Homestead Assisted Living.
The Wellington First Presbyterian Church continued their 150th Anniversary celebration with “Christmas Concert: A Christmas Celebration Organ Recital” performed by the immensely talented and truly inspiring JuleAnn Troutman.

The December BOE meeting opened with a presentation by WHS Head Baseball Coach, Ryan Jenkins, requesting to take the team on their annual Spring Break trip to Arizona. Similar to last year’s trip, the team would depart on Sunday, March 12th and return Friday the 17th. The costs of the trip are covered by fundraisers held throughout the year. Last year, 3 adults and 20 athletes went on the trip and enjoyed seeing the World Classic Game. The trip was approved by the board and Jenkins will finalize the accommodations.
Among this year’s Kansas Notable Book award recipients is a children’s book called “A Vote for Susanna: The First Woman Mayor”. It’s about Susanna Salter of Argonia, Kansas, who was the first elected woman to serve as mayor in the entire United States!
The winners of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce’s Outdoor Christmas Decorating Contest were announced at the Chamber coffee on Thursday morning. The competition was co-sponsored with the City of Wellington and featured some dazzling entries this year! The Theme was “Candy Land Christmas” and in the Commercial Category, the winners are: 1st Place – Sumner County Economic Development Commission located at 215 South Washington Avenue.
