Each of us has at least one favorite Thanksgiving tradition. Maybe it’s watching a bowl game after a delicious meal, taking a leisurely nap afterwards or just spending time with family and friends. For many, Thanksgiving memories are attached to our favorite holiday dishes. Whether it’s the basic essentials like turkey, stuffing, jellied cranberries or pumpkin pie, recalling how your favorite aunt or grandmother made that special dish is something we cherish. Whether it is remembering the first time your 5-year-old son helped mash the potatoes or sitting on the front stoop with your grandma snapping fresh green beans, the custom nourished the soul as much as the body.
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we would like to invite our readers to share their favorite Thanksgiving recipe along with a memory of why the recipe is special to them. It can be a traditional dish or something completely different, the point is to bring our community together through the sharing of our stories. The recipes will be printed in the newspaper the week prior to Thanksgiving so everyone can enjoy them and still have time to do a little extra grocery shopping should you decide to make something new.

As part of this celebration, the National Association of Counties (NACo), the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO) and the Kansas Association of Counties invited counties, parishes, and boroughs to show their support for veterans by illuminating the exteriors of their buildings in green light from November 7th to November 13th.
As most of you know, this year marks the 100th anniversary of Memorial Auditorium. In honor of Veteran’s Day, I’m including some history of the Auditorium as well as the Veterans for whom the building was originally constructed to memorialize; the brave young men of Sumner County who fought in the Great War, World War I.
