Stars Shine in Sumner

Recently, the Kansas Department of Commerce held the annual “To The Stars: Kansas Businesses Awards” banquet in Topeka. This program recognizes businesses across the state for the valuable contributions they make to the Kansas economy and to the well-being of their communities.

Cowley College Chat

On the Cowley College Sumner campus, we continue to host area high school freshmen for informative visits. November will be a blockbuster month as it begins with our own local Wellington high school freshmen coming to campus for Career Exploration Day. WHS instructor Rane Case has arranged for all 142 freshmen to attend.

Ag Day at Cowley College

Guests of all ages participated in the first Cowley College Ag Day at the Sumner Campus last week. Members of the Cowley Livestock Judging Team joined Buddy Curry, Director of Agriculture and Ag Instructor Andrew Tucker in hosting the event that included interactive displays, outdoor games and adorable farm animals.

Named one of the “Top 10 Cooks in America” by Food Network’s “All Star Academy”, Mike’s old-fashioned comfort foods and distinctive recipes speak to his authentic enthusiasm and love for culinary adventure. Chicken Picadillo Soup: Ingredients: 1 c each carrot, celery, and potato - cubed 1 tbsp kosher salt 1 tbsp chicken bouillon powder 1 tsp oregano leaves 5.5 oz can tomato juice 32 oz chicken broth 1/2 rotisserie chicken (white meat or dark) Oil We like to serve this beautiful comfort dish with Mexican rice and tortillas but it goes well with grilled cheese or bread.

KING COLE

Cole Wiens, son of April and Jeremy Wiens, of Wellington had a big week. The senior defensive end for the South Sumner Outlaws was elected Homecoming King as his team ended their regular season with an 8-0 record. Cole has been accepted into an accelerated law program (LEAD) through Wichita State. Through this program, he will begin his first year of the University of Kansas School of Law during his senior year at Wichita State.
