The Jacob Engle building located at the corner of Washington and Lincoln Avenue is currently undergoing deconstruction in the rear portion of the structure in preparation for reconstruction. The work is made possible thanks to a new community revitalization program called the Historic Economic Asset Lifeline (HEAL).

Every Monday, Bonnie Cantrel, Lora Fleming, Letha Saunders and Carla Rains meet at the Senior Center to quilt beautiful works of art together by hand. They have been gathering like this since 2009 and take turns bringing in quilts that they then hand stitch together as a group.

In March 2021, the Kansas Legislature passed K.S.A. 79-2988, which requires Kansas County Clerks to send taxpayers notification of the Revenue Neutral Rate (RNR) compared to the proposed rate for each taxing subdivisions. Taxing subdivisions are prohibited from levying an ad valorem property tax that exceeds the RNR without first holding a public hearing and passing a resolution.
