Unsatisfied with the idea of graduating from school simply to become part of the social fabric of the town, these two young girls resisted the expectations assigned to women of that era.

Glass Rod Lightning Balls

This seems like a strange topic, but it definitely has a connection with American made glassware. I became interested in the subject when I borrowed an unusual piece of glass from some friends. It was a piece of Cambridge glass in the “Azurite” color from the early 1920s, but I had no idea what it was.

Celebrate Wheat Festival

The 122nd Kansas Wheat Festival was held in Wellington July 5th – July 9th. The event garnered the financial, donation and sponsorship support of over a 100 local businesses and organizations as Sumner County celebrated the end of the 2022 wheat harvest.

Wheat Contest 2022

The Annual Wheat Contest, sponsored and conducted by Renn & Company, demonstrated excellent yields for the Sumner County 2022 harvest. Each year this contest measures the best wheat in Sumner County and establishes a winner based on specific quality criteria. This year, the sample submitted by Dennis Farley snagged 1st place, and entries from Randy Wyckoff placed both 2nd and 3rd.

Bed Races

The 2022 Kansas Wheat Festival Bed Race for the sought-after Bedpan Trophy was sponsored by Cowley College. The race took place in front of The Gold Corner and contained teams of four participants, ages 16 or older.

4-H Fair Exhibits

The Sumner County 4-H Fair was held in the Raymond Frye Complex during the Wheat Festival and presented a wide variety of exhibits. The event included a Fashion Revue with handmade clothing and a special quilt jacket presentation from The Beehive Quilt Shop.

Run For The Paws!

This year’s Run For The Paws fundraising event for the Wellington Humane Society included a 5K race that began at 7:30am and a 1mile race that started at 8:30am, Saturday July 9 th , 2022. Both races began at the Wellington Humane Society located at 203 W Hillside in Wellington and covered a course that was a mix of asphalt, gravel and sidewalk.
