Oceans of Magical Possibilities Show

Get ready to take a deep dive into an underwater wonderland of laughs, literacy and learning as Dan Dan the Magic Man comes to Memorial Auditorium next Tuesday, July 19th at 10:30 am. As part of the Library’s Summer Reading Program, Dan will bring his unique blend of comedy and magic to downtown Wellington.

Honoring Sumner County Veterans

There’s a small piece of real estate in the northeast corner of Memorial Auditorium’s lobby that is home to Sumner County’s veteran memorabilia showcase, which houses military uniforms, wartime photos, accomplishment medals, varying flags, letters from home, and so much more. The room is a stunning display of rich local history that many may have never seen.

Bookmark Design Contest

One thing our library, and those of us that love books, never have enough of is bookmarks! As part of our Wheat Festival celebrations, the Library invited the community to submit designs for bookmarks. We received 35 entries! The designs were on display during the festival and the public voted for their favorite.

NDGA 46th Annual Convention

The National Depression Glass Association (NDGA) held their 46th Annual Convention at the Wellington High School, July 8th – July 10th. Open to the public, this convention marked only the 4th time that the convention was held here in Wellington.

Harvest Photo Contest

To enter a photo into the Harvest Photo Contest, the photo had to depict something from the Kansas wheat harvest. The photo had to be a framed 8x10 print, or a photo printed on canvas with a hanging mount for display.

Wheat Contest 2022

The Annual Wheat Contest, sponsored and conducted by Renn & Company, demonstrated excellent yields for the Sumner County 2022 harvest. Each year this contest measures the best wheat in Sumner County and establishes a winner based on specific quality criteria. This year, the sample submitted by Dennis Farley snagged 1st place, and entries from Randy Wyckoff placed both 2nd and 3rd.

Bed Races

The 2022 Kansas Wheat Festival Bed Race for the sought-after Bedpan Trophy was sponsored by Cowley College. The race took place in front of The Gold Corner and contained teams of four participants, ages 16 or older.

4-H Fair Exhibits

The Sumner County 4-H Fair was held in the Raymond Frye Complex during the Wheat Festival and presented a wide variety of exhibits. The event included a Fashion Revue with handmade clothing and a special quilt jacket presentation from The Beehive Quilt Shop.
