This process was made faster by the creation of V-Mail, which significantly sped up the speed, security, and shipping costs of correspondence between battlefront soldiers and their communities at home in the states.

WWII Victory Letter from Bob to Gwen

The Wellington Senior Center hosted a Memorial Program featuring pianist Betty Pattrick and a reading by Navy Veteran and Wellington City Councilman, Rick Roitman. Roitman, a retired US Navy Commander, served for 27 years and on this occasion honored a fellow Navy man, Bob Rice, by reading a letter he had written from his ship during WWII.

Wellington Heat baseball players have arrived! The Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce/ Convention Visitors Bureau opened Memorial Auditorium to host Coach Ryan Jenkins’ “Heat and Greet” with this year’s Wellington Heat Baseball players.

A Community Prepares…

Hundreds gathered early on Saturday morning to raise more than 1,200 flags and honor plates at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, recognizing veterans on Memorial Day. Choreographed from years of custom, the young, old, men, women, boys and girls joined together for this impressive endeavor.

Burning in the City Limits

Just a quick reminder that burning, other than in a fire pit or chiminea, within the city limits requires a burn permit issued here at the Fire Department. Burn permits are only issued for open areas where there is enough room to safely burn. We encourage citizens to take brush, leaves and grass to the city compost site instead of burning.
