When was the last time you visited the Wellington Public Library? We offer a whole lot more than books! The Library serves as a resource in our community, offering free WiFi and computer use to everyone. Our computers have been utilized more than 2500 times in recent years.

Burning in the City Limits

Just a quick reminder that burning, other than in a fire pit or chiminea, within the city limits requires a burn permit issued here at the Fire Department. Burn permits are only issued for open areas where there is enough room to safely burn. We encourage citizens to take brush, leaves and grass to the city compost site instead of burning.

Bill offers opportunity to fund threatened wildlife in Kansas without new taxes

Residents and visitors to Kansas can still hear primal sounds that speak to attentive humans the very essence of wildness. One is the clatter of migrating sandhill cranes, rising with the sun in their thousands from their roosting areas at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge or Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area and returning at dusk.

Learning to Predict Severe Weather

KWCH Storm Team 12 Meteorologist Jake Dunne visited the Regent Theater to teach students about the hi-tech tools he uses to predict severe weather. Satellites, weather balloons and Dopplar radar are a few of the primary sources for gathering weather data, which can be fed into a super computer and evaluated to predict and track weather patterns. An important component for keeping residents safe during severe weather.

Sumner City, The City that Almost Was, Pt 1

When you mention Sumner City most people either say - what was it, where was it, or what happened to it? The first building erected in Sumner County in 1865 was the log ranch house of Degola and Caddo, which was used as a stock waystation and trading post along the Chisholm Trail. This was where Jesse Chisholm or other travelers on the trail could stop, exchange horses and get a few supplies before moving on.
