Eight years after Janet Wikel’s mysterious disappearance, Max Schmidt, a Caldwell resident known for his frequent outings to the Chikaskia River, was hand-fishing. When he spotted something buried in the sand he initially thought he had found a large clam shell. His discovery turned out to be something far more chilling, a human skull.
Wellington High School freshman Dru Zeka emerged as a standout at the 2024 4A Girls & Boys State Track & Field Meet, held last Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.
As part of a longstanding tradition in the Wellington community, hundreds gathered Saturday morning to install the Avenue of Flags at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. More than 1,200 flags, accompanied by honor plates, were solemnly placed on the graves to pay tribute to those who have fallen in military service.
The City Council has established, by Resolution No. 5471, a procedure for filling a vacancy in a council member position on the governing body of the City.
The city council meeting opened with the call to order and pledge of allegiance. Reverend Bob Nusser of First Baptist Church led the invocation.
