City Council Work Session

- February 13, 2024 The Wellington City Council convened a special work session to deliberate on the purchase of a new Aerial Platform Fire Truck. Firefighters from the research committee addressed the Council’s inquiries regarding the truck’s capabilities, cost, and the condition of the current equipment.

Zeka Commits to TVCC

WHS Senior Whitney Zeka took a significant step in her cheerleading journey by signing with Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) on Valentine’s Day. Cardinals Head Coach, Vontae Johnson, traveled from Athens, TX, to personally welcome Zeka to the squad.

Washington Graduates From MSU, Pursues MBA

Wellington High School 2019 alumni De’Andre Washington graduated from Missouri State University in fall 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business. During his time at MSU, he not only showcased his athletic talents as a member of the Bears football team, he excelled academically earning a spot on the Athletic Department’s Honor Roll list for Fall 2023.

Cornejo Competes In League Finals

Wellington Crusader Ralph Cornejo competed in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League (AVCTL) Division III & IV League Championship at the Hutchinson YMCA in Hutchinson, KS last weekend. Since WHS does not have a swim program, juniors Ralph Cornejo and Rome Hunt have been competing during the regular season as part of the Winfield High School swim team.

Pet of the Week

Aurora is a beautiful girl with a big personality! At almost 2 years old, she has waited longer than most to find her purrfect home. She absolutely loves people and demands affection and conversation. She is probably best as an only pet as she wants all her peoples’ attention! She loves humans of all ages and would make an excellent companion for someone who is home a lot. She will make sure you feel loved! Stop in this week to meet Aurora! We are open Wednesday through Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. If you are interested in adoption, please complete the online application before coming in. We adopt in order of when the application is received, so the sooner you get your application in the better! Aurora is one of our Special Pets and her adoption fee is during her week!

WHS Cheer Hosts Youth Camp

The WHS Cheer Team recently hosted a two-day “Little Dukes Cheer Clinic” for young athletes at Lincoln Elementary and Wellington Middle School. The clinic, attended by over 40 youngsters ranging from ages 3 to 5th grade, featured instruction in jumps, cheers, stunts, and a dance routine.
