The Sumner County land Julia and Troy Strnad call home has been in the family for generations. In 2019, the Kansas Farm Bureau recognized them as a “Century Farm,” originally established by Julia’s ancestors, Peter and Augusta Lungren, in 1918.
The Wellington boys basketball team allowed 40 second half points, suffering a 30-point defeat to Circle last Tuesday in Towanda. Dusty Bannister scored the game’s opening basket, but Circle rattled off eight straight points.

Weather permitting, the Wellington Cemetery Staff will conduct their annual clean-up of Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday, February 20th. As part of this maintenance, winter decorations and items that violate Cemetery Code will be removed and properly disposed of. Individuals who wish to retrieve their items are encouraged to do so before this date.
Last Tuesday, the Wellington girls basketball team dominated a Circle team that came into the game with an impressive 10-3 record, holding Circle to only five points in the entire second half. “Our defense was very active and caused Circle confusion,” said WHS head coach Eric Adams.

For the second straight year, WHS senior Aubrey Hunt finds herself headed to State. Last weekend at Regionals in McPherson, Hunt reached the Championship match of the 190-pound weight class.
Wichita State University proudly announced the graduation of more than 1,280 students who completed a total of 1,380 degrees during the fall of 2023. Among these graduates, honors were conferred to 48 students for Summa Cum Laude, 184 for Magna Cum Laude, and 168 for Cum Laude for their bachelor’s degrees.
Valentine’s Day originated as Christian Feast Day honoring a martyr named Valentine. The holiday, also called St. Valentine’s Day or Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14th.
