The public is invited to share their input regarding possible fee increases and overall goals for the improvement of Wellington Lake. The meeting will be held during the regular meeting of the Wellington Park Board on November 6, 6pm at Memorial Auditorium.
To improve safety for workers as well as communities, Kansas put into effect a rule requiring railroads operating in the state to have at least two railroad crew members in the lead locomotive. Kansas is now the 10th state in the country with this safety requirement.
Josie came in as a tiny newborn with her mom and siblings. Her other family members have been adopted out, and now it’s her turn! She is a gorgeous 6-month-old who rules the kitten colony. Don’t let her poise and attitude fool you, she is also cuddly and loves attention. She is currently in a colony with several kittens and she keeps them in line. Josie also enjoys playing in the colony even when she’s not feeling bossy!
Sunni and Jim Bales recently embarked on a quest to learn more about renowned Wellington musician and conductor Joseph Maddie. As the Director of the Chisholm Trail Museum, Jim was intimately familiar with Maddie, his family and their early years in Sumner County.
The bikes were lined up along Lincoln Avenue for the Wellington American Legion Post #90’s annual Poker Run last Saturday. This year, the event helped raise funds to purchase new guns to be used at Military Funeral Honor services.
The Sumner County Historical & Genealogical Society’s next event is a fascinating program based on the book “These Old Bones: Main Street - Historic Caldwell”, written by Michelle Schiltz and LuAnn Jamison. The program is free and open to the public next Monday, October 16th, 6:30pm at Memorial Auditorium.
To help bring life saving skills to more citizens, the Wellington Fire/EMS will be conducting a free class for the public on Tuesday, October 24th at 6pm at the public safety building, 200 North C Street. The class content will include; two-hand CPR (non-certification), how to help a choking victim, and Stop the Bleed instructions.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has released their 2023 Kansas Upland Game Bird Forecast which is compiled from data collected during the Department’s spring calling surveys for pheasants, quail, and prairie chickens, as well as late-summer roadside surveys for pheasants and quail.
In preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse this Saturday, October 16th, the Wellington Noon Lions Club delivered solar eclipse glasses to all four USD 353 Elementary Schools on Monday. Thanks to their donation, each elementary student will be able to safely view the eclipse with their own personal pair of these special glasses.
