Dondlinger & Sons Construction Co. Inc. will begin work this week on the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) bridge project on U.S. 160 over Hargis Creek, between North A Street (U.S. 81) and North Woodlawn Avenue.
Ballet Wichita presented the world début performance of Hans Christian Anderson’s story of “Thumbelina” in Sellers Park on Sunday. Several hundred patrons sat under the trees in the perfect weather enjoying the story, French composer Georges Bizet’s music score, and the graceful dancers.
The Wellington Municipal Airport celebrated their annual Open House last Saturday, which put smiles on lots of young faces. “In total we had 20 airplanes fly in for the event,” said Airport Manager Matt Wiebe.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. All month, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members are uniting to promote suicide prevention awareness. With this in mind, we are sharing the thoughts of former WHS science teacher, Al Melichar.
The inaugural Jim Walton Community Impact Award Recipients were announced last Wednesday September 6th at the 2023 Stand Up Rural America Summit held in Laurel, Mississippi. Sumner County Economic Development Director, Stacy Davis, was presented with the Jim Walton Community Impact Honorable Mention Award during the Summit.
Next Monday, September 18th, at 6:30 pm the Sumner County Historical and Genealogical Society is hosting a program entitled “Native American Research: How to get started, Where to go, and How to find the answers you’re looking for” by Jason Felihkatubbe. The program is free and will be presented on the Sumner Campus at Cowley College in the Short General Education Center.

The Wellington Teachers’ and Professional Employees’ Union is hosting a Candidate Forum for all 12 applicants running for USD 353 School Board positions on Tuesday, September 19th at the Regent Theater. Candidates will be available for a meet and greet at 5:30pm with the Forum beginning at 6:00pm.
