Endangered in Sumner County

A recent survey found that conservation of threatened and endangered wildlife remains an important issue to Kansans. In fact, a majority of Kansas residents (94%) agreed that the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) should continue to “identify and protect” habitat that is critical to threatened and endangered species.

It’s A Picnic

As is tradition, the Kansas Wheat Festival, (KWF) kicked off the public gatherings with Picnic in the Park. This year, the picnic was proudly sponsored by the Wellington Daily News! On Wednesday evening it was pretty steamy, but the green lawn of Seller’s Park was filled with people, lawn chairs, and pop-up tents.

Wheat Harvest Recap

With about half the wheat harvested in Kansas, the Kansas Wheat Commission and Kansas Association of Wheat Growers are reporting that the 2023 wheat harvest is behind last year’s yields by about 80%. It’s about 60% behind the 5-year average.
