As a servant to this community, in this issue we hope to lift up and recognize those individuals that guide and protect our citizens each and every day. In some cases, their actions go unnoticed and in others their movements are forward facing and nothing short of inspiring.
The Sumner County Health Department was established in the 1950’s for the purpose of immunizing citizens against communicable diseases. Today, the organization has evolved to provide Sumner County residents with comprehensive, cost-effective, and quality public health resources through a variety of services that support women, infants, children, adolescents and family preventative health.
The Sumner County Sheriff ’s Office is located in Wellington and serves an area of 1,188 square miles. The office employs 26 sheriff deputies, 20 detention deputies, and 6 civilian employees. The Office provides general law enforcement, detention and court services for the people of Sumner County as well as security for the Sumner County Court.
A-Shift FF/Paramedic Clayton Steele recently conducted a CPR/choking class along with “Stop the Bleed” training for Wellington City employees in the conference room at the Public Safety Building. As a free service to the community, Wellington Fire/EMS frequently offers this same training to the public.
WELLINGTON FIRE/EMS The Wellington Fire/EMS Department provides both fire services and emergency medical services. The Department consists of the Fire/EMS Chief, shift personnel and an Administrative/EMS Clerk.
The Kansas VFW, 5th District, recently named Wellington Fire/EMS paramedic, Bradley Robinson, “Paramedic of the Year”. Commander Casimiro Campa, VFW Post 881 and Aaron Grundon, Post 6957 presented the award during the June 6th Wellington City Council meeting.
Wellington Fire/EMS was recently awarded over $38,000 as part of the annual distribution to local Firefighter Relief Associations (FRAs). The program was established in 1895, by the Kansas Legislature to help fund fire departments.
The Wellington Police Fire/EMS complex houses a special piece of steel in the front lobby. It’s a piece of I-beam recovered from the Twin Tower wreckage site just a few months after the 9/11 tragedy.
Have you seen unusual looking cameras around town and wondered what they were being for? They are called Flock cameras and they capture license plates. In Wellington, they have assisted local police in locating missing persons, stolen property and much more.
