Wind Project Delivers on Lighting Promise

Drivers traveling along Highway 160 at night may have noticed a darker sky - and more visible stars. As promised, Wild Plains Wind, LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, has completed optimization of its aircraft detection lighting system (ADLS), significantly reducing the number of continuously flashing red lights atop its wind turbines.

Don’t miss the Sumner County 4-H Council’s Cookie Jar Auction, happening during the Wheat Festival Picnic in the Park on Wednesday, July 9 at 6pm. 4-H Clubs across Sumner County will enter uniquely decorated, treat-filled cookie jars in the auction.

Talent Talk Sparks Collaboration on Workforce Needs

Local leaders, business owners, educators, and community stakeholders came together for the 2025 Sumner County Talent Talk, held June 17 at Cowley College’s Sumner Campus in Wellington. The event, hosted by the Sumner County Economic Development Commission (SCEDC), Cowley Community College, and the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas, aimed to strengthen partnerships and align workforce priorities to support economic growth in the region.
