Wellington SRO Honored as Kansas D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year

In addition to assuring the safety of Wellington students, School Resource Officer Leslie Allen has spent more than her fair share of time in funky costumes, braved the dunk tank, and teamed up with costumed characters—all in the name of building trust with youth. Last week, Allen’s extraordinary efforts to connect with young people were recognized by the Kansas Juvenile Officers Association (KSJOA), which named her the 2025 Kansas D.A.R.E.

The Purple Heart Series

In December 2024, the Wellington community was officially designated a Purple Heart City, an honor bestowed by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Wellington Marks 125 Years of the Kansas Wheat Festival

As it has for more than a century, the Wellington community came together to celebrate its agricultural heritage with the annual Kansas Wheat Festival. Organized by the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB and supported by dozens of local businesses and organizations, the week was filled with live music, friendly competitions, and an unmistakable sense of hometown pride.
