In January, Wellington resident Sergeant Michael Lloyd, commander of the Wichita Police Department’s Motorcycle Unit traveled to Washington, D.C., to assist with traffic and crowd control during the Presidential Inauguration. He was honored with an invitation to return with his team to participate in National Police Week.
Kanokla has begun construction on a $2.6 million fiber internet expansion project that will bring high-speed connectivity to more than 140 rural homes and farms south of Wellington. The project is funded in part by a Broadband Acceleration Grant (BAG4) from the Kansas Department of Commerce Office of Broadband Development, along with a significant investment from Kanokla.

The Wellington High School Class of 2025 marked a major life milestone on Sunday, May 18, as 108 graduating seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. Though originally planned for an outdoor setting, the threat of severe weather brought the celebration inside the WHS gymnasium—adding an extra layer of intimacy and togetherness to the occasion.
The Avenue of Flags is one of Wellington’s most iconic and cherished community traditions. This year, organizers are inviting volunteers to join them at 8am on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Prairie Lawn Cemetery to help raise the flags.

In May of 1960, American flags lined every downtown pole in Wellington as the city prepared to welcome a very special guest — former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Her visit left a lasting impression on many residents, particularly the young women who had the chance to meet her in person.

The Wellington tennis team competed in Regional action last week in Winfield. After getting close the last two seasons, Maverick Peterson finally broke through, finishing in fifth place, which earned him a spot in the KSHSAA 4A State Championship tournament.
Last Thursday, Governor Laura Kelly announced that $14.5 million in Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP) funding has been awarded to 47 aviation projects across the state — including a grant for the Wellington Municipal Airport.
