Celia Louise Bunyard

Celia Louise Bunyard age 82 of rural Elk City, KS passed away on August 3,2022 at her home with the people she loved the most right by her side. Celia was born March 14, 1940 in Wellington, KS the second oldest of seven to Cecil and Eunice (Siever) Lawless. She attended grammar school at Mt Zion and then graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 58. After high school she started waiting tables at the turnpike. She then started working for various aircraft manufacturers, including Cessna, Boeing, Beechcraft, and Midwest. Celia also found employment in the cafeteria at Elk Valley Schools, and was the owner of the Arrowhead Café for several years. On March 16, 1979 she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Bunyard. Celia enjoyed collecting red glass, fishing, reading her romance novels and other books about country music singers, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, spending time with her family, cooking and baking. She was a one of a kind cook and an even better baker. Her family knew if the tv was on a western, specifically Gunsmoke to not interrupt or be too loud. Celia was baptized in the Church of Christ, she was genuinely caring and loved deeply, and she was true to who she was and said what she thought. Celia’s memories will live on with her husband Jim, her children; Kendria Schnug, Kenneth William Coatney Jr (Misty), Kent Lee Coatney (Karin), Jimmie Joe Bunyard (Vanessa), and Jamie Lee Bunyard (Jordan), her siblings; George Lawless (Vonnie), Phylis Vincent (Don) Evelyn Estes, Charles Lawless (Di), and Glenn Lawless (Brenda), grandchildren; Kandace, Kenny, Kevin, Keith, Keri, Vanessa, Alyssa, Rachelle, Ronni, Jenni, Jimmie, Troy, Nahima, Sammy, and Naomi, and 15 greatgrandchildren. She now rests with her parents, her brother that was lost in infancy Cecil Lawless, son-inlaw Gary Schnug, grandson Steven Wehling, and great-grandson Kaden Scott Coatney. Honoring Celia’s wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home with no formal services being held. Larry Dale (Birddog) Martin,

Larry Dale (Birddog) Martin, age 70, died July 25, 2022, in Clay Center, KS. He was born in Anthony, KS on December 2, 1951, to Loren H. and Elizabeth “Janie” (Heckethorn) Martin. Larry grew up on a dairy and wheat farm near Caldwell, KS. He raised prize winning chickens for his 4-H projects and out cooked the girls in his 4-H cooking class. While on the farm, his favorite pet was his bird dog, Sandy. Larry attended school in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1970. He also went to junior college in Arkansas City. After a traumatic accident in Arkansas City, he spent several years living in a rehab facility in Kansas City and then moved to Clay Center to be closer to family. While in Clay Center, he worked for Gilmore-Tatge and Big Lakes. Larry also participated in a couple chili cook offs and won. His chili was appropriately name “Dragons Breath”. According to his sister, he made the best chocolate chip cookies but refused to give out his recipe. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Donald Martin. Larry is survived by his sisters, Sharon (Paul) Houston of Manhattan, KS, Merrie Martin of Wichita, KS, Joan Martin of Topeka, KS and Loretta (David) Kordyak of Manhattan, KS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A time of remembrance will be held at the Neill- Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, KS on Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 9-11 AM. Connie Lou Norton (Ames)

Connie Lou Norton (Ames) passed on July 26, 2022 in her home of Grove, Oklahoma She was born on November 26, 1936 in Ottawa, Kansas to Louis Ames and Hazel Brown. Connie met and fell in love with Glenn Norton they married on August 26, 1956 and had three sons - Steve, Mark, and Mike. Connie was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, and a member of Ottawa Kansas VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She was a nurse by trade, and she graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma in Tonkawa. The one thing Connie absolutely loved doing was spending time with her grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. William Wayne Sneed

William Wayne Sneed, 67, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He was born October 19, 1954 in Wellington, Kansas to Wayne and Tudy (McEachern) Sneed. Bill graduated from Washburn University with a BA in Business in 1977 and a Juris Doctorate in 1980. He started his career at the Kansas Insurance Department, where he ad vanced to the Department’s Chief Counsel. He transitioned to the private practice of law and became managing partner for Gehrt and Roberts law firm. In 1995, Bill joined Polsinelli to launch the firm’s practice in government affairs and managed the Topeka office until he departed in 2017 to open Sneed Law Firm, providing legal, lobbying and government affairs services for clients in Kansas and across the United States.

Wanda Louise Macklin Leedburg

Wanda Louise Macklin Leedburg, 89 of Jacksonville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022. She was born Monday, July 17, 1933 in Wellington, Kansas to the late Frank A. and Theresa Ison Macklin. Wanda moved from Kansas in 2006 to be near her daughter. She was a self-taught master gardener who loved to work in her flower garden and spend time with her cat, Tiger. In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clarence R.(Ron) Leedburg; sisters, Ruth Macklin and Alice Legan and one son, Robert W. Martinez, all of Wellington.

Betty Ann Farley went to be with her Lord and savior on July 6, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 87. She was born the daughter of Bert and Mildred (Garner) Irvine on August 30, 1934 in Lincoln, Kansas.
