Barbara Jean Standley

WELLINGTON - Barbara Jean Standley, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Homestead Assisted Living in Wellington at the age of 85. She was born the daughter of Harvey O. and Violet (Wells) Elmore on June 1, 1936 in Parson, Kansas. Barbara graduated from Erie (KS) High School and then went on to attend some college courses. On August 26, 1954, she and Charles“Charlie” Standley were united in marriage in Erie, Kansas and celebrated 45 years of marriage before his passing in 1999. Barbara was employed as a clerk at the Rexall Drug Store and retired after 32 years of employment. Outside of work, she was very involved in her community as a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion in Erie. Barbara volunteered with Beta Sigma Phi, the Recreation Commission, the American Red Cross, a leader in the local 4-H, and served on the County Health Board in Erie. She will also be remembered by many as the Erie Swim Lessons Program lead, which she did for over 22 years. Later in life, Barbara relocated to the Wichita and Wellington area where she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
