The Wellington boys and girls cross country teams competed in their home invitational last Saturday at Hargis Creek. “The meet went well, we have been battling injuries and sickness the last couple of weeks,” said head coach, Jaedyn Showman.
Wellington High School volleyball fans got their money’s worth last Tuesday when the Lady Crusaders hosted Rose Hill and Wichita Collegiate in a triangular that stretched into the evening. The JV squad split their matches, falling to Rose Hill in three sets before bouncing back to sweep Collegiate in two.
Girls Tennis Finishes 2nd At Circle
An upset over Wichita Collegiate last week set up arguably the biggest regular season game of the Jeremiah Meeks era for the Wellington football team. An afternoon filled with optimism turned into an evening of nightmares in Andale as things went south quickly and the Crusaders never recovered.
For the first time in seven years, the Wellington Crusaders took the football field against the Wichita Collegiate Spartans and came away victorious. The 32-13 win is also the squad's first victory in the season opener since 2018.
After a third place finish at the Wichita Trinity Invitational and a pair of 2-1 wins over El Dorado and Clearwater, the Wellington volleyball team is off to a great start under new head coach, Kaylie Lagasse. The tournament at Wichita Trinity was a pre-season tournament that does not count towards the regular season record.
In Wellington’s first tournament of the season, the girls tennis team finished in second place at their home invitational, scoring 18 points. Goddard-Eisenhower won the event scoring 27. Buhler scored 14 and Wichita Independent scored zero.
The Wellington girls golf team teed off their season last week at Carey Park in Hutchinson last Thursday. The tournament was a pre-state invitational with the best 16 teams in 4A competing.
Wellington High School alum and former cross country runner Connor Walker is beginning his sophomore season at Cowley College. For the second consecutive year, Walker will be competing as part of the Tigers cross country team which finished 11th in their regional meet last season.
The Wellington girls tennis team opened the season this week in their home invitational. It marks the 25th season that head coach Brian Aufdengarten has led the Lady Dukes.
