Wrestlers See More Success

e Wellington wrestlers ended the 2024 portion of the season with a dual against rival Mulvane. e boys then went to Marion County to take on Hills - boro/Canton-Galva while the girls traveled to Chase County on Saturday for their invitational. e WHS boys team suered a close 38-32 defeat against Mulvane. Crusader Cabel Bogguss defeated Hunter Lan - dis in a 10-5 decision for three points. WHS's Rogan Wetta defeated Kolton Whistler in a technical fall, 17-0 and Axl Norris pinned Ethan Magill. Colton Elmore also defeated Cole Zim - merman.

Lady Crusaders Are Cardinal Classic Champions!

After scoring more than 160 combined points in the opening two rounds of the Cardinal Classic, including a school record 90 points in the opening round against Hutch Trinity, and 72 points in the second round against Pratt, the Wellington girls' basketball team looked to exact revenge in the Championship game on Saturday night against Cheney. One of their two losses from a year ago.

WHS Boys Finish 3rd In Cardinal Classic

e Wellington boys basketball team earned 3rd Place for the second straight year competing in the Cardinal Classic in Cheney. In the opening round, the Dukes used a 46 point performance by WHS senior Carter Burnett, which tied the single game school record, to get past Hutchinson Trinity in Hutchinson. e Dukes returned home to play the second round of the tournament and were tied at halftime against Pratt. e Greenbacks outscored WHS by 17 in the second half earning Wellington a date on Saturday afternoon for 3rd Place against Chaparral in Cheney. e Dukes jumped out to an 11-3 lead on Saturday, but Chaparral did not go away quietly after falling behind. e Dukes stopped running their oense and started chucking threes which led to a Roadrunners 7-2 run that cut the Crusader lead to three points.
