Get ready for an action- packed event as the Wellington Youth Wrestling Club hosts the “Crusade Through the Heartland”Tournament this Sunday, January 28th, starting at 9 am at Wellington High School.
In a significant milestone, local shooting range, Trigger Guard, proudly joined the ranks of the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) last week. Earning this prestigious designation required Trigger Guard to showcase its commitment by presenting documentation highlighting a membership base of at least 10 USPSA enthusiasts.
The Wellington Lady Crusader basketball squad tied a school record with 84 points at Wichita Collegiate in their first game back from Christmas break to improve to 7-1 on the season. Wellington jumped out to a 14-4 lead immediately capitalizing off four Val Norwood steals in the trapping zone defense.
The WHS Powerlifting team had their first meet of the season last Saturday. It was a virtual meet, so the Crusaders participated against 14 other schools from their own facility Top Overall finishers from the boys included: Maverick Peterson, 124 pounds, 1st in Bench, 1st in Squat, 2nd in Clean and 1st Overall.
With more and more states adopting a shot clock, one thing has become clear. The Kansas State High School Activities Association needs to do the same.
Last February, USD 353 conducted a community survey to gather public input on proposed updates to Wellington athletic facilities. Among various suggestions, the community strongly favored the construction of locker rooms at Sellers Park.

In an exciting reveal during the annual Kansas Shrine Bowl Selection Show on Monday, January 1st, local WHS senior Derrick Lowe secured a coveted place on the roster. The 6’2” offensive lineman will proudly represent the West Team guided by WHS head coach Jeremiah Meeks, who earned the honor of coaching the 4A division.
The Lady Crusaders ended their pre-holiday break stretch of games with a dominant win in Winfield to improve to 6-1, winning their fifth straight game. To open, Wellington jumped out to a 9-2 lead.
