
WHS Girls Golfers Honored
The Kansas Golf Coaches Association announced their 2023 girls All-Class teams. Sophomore, Taryn Viramontes has been selected First Team and sophomore Claire Ginter received an Honorable Mention.

________. __ Wellington’s cheerleading squad will head to Topeka on Friday, November 17th to compete in a state-wide competition known as 2023 Spirit Gameday.
____ __________ The pickleball craze has officially dinked its way into Wellington, with the town hosting its first-ever tournament this past Saturday at the Armaan Foundation Activity Center. Ten teams battled it out to be crowned pickleball Champs of Sumner County, proving that in this sport, if you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen! Pickleball has taken the country by storm becoming the fastest growing sport in 2023 with over 36 million players across the U.S.
________. __ The Wellington football team won a thriller to advance in the 4A state playoffs on Friday night against Field Kindley (Coffeyville.) The Dukes defense stole the show coming up with big stops when the team needed them.
Wellington beat Circle in a last second thrill. This was the team’s second defeat of the Thunderbirds this season.
She’s been playing golf since she was a little kid. That helped Taryn Viramontes reach a record setting year in golf this fall.
Luke Wylie was the lone competitor for WHS at the KSHSAA 4A State Cross Country meet this past Saturday at the Wamego Country Club in Wamego, KS. At the meet, Wylie set a new personal best time of 17:27 and finished 27th out of 101 competitors.
The Wellington girls golf team achieved the highest finish in school history, as they placed 3rd at the Kansas State High School Activities Association State Championship. Wellington shot +76 as a team, finishing behind Topeka Hayden and Wamego in the tournament.
The Wellington volleyball team finished their 2023 season with an up and down week. They came away with a win on Tuesday night, but ended their year with a first-round, sub-state loss to Ulysses last Saturday afternoon.
The KSHSAA 4A Regional Cross Country meet was held at the Cessna Activity Center last Saturday. Sophomore Luke Wylie will advance to compete at the State Cross Country meet this weekend at the Wamego Country Club in Wamego, KS.
