On a night designated to honor the program’s seniors, a junior was the star of the show. Wellington quarterback Dusty Bannister broke a longstanding WHS single game passing record throwing a total of 478 yards.

Sometimes you have to win games where you don’t play your best. That was the case for Wellington’s football team Friday night against Circle in an ugly contest that resulted in the Crusaders fifth victory this season.

The Wellington boys cross country team took home the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Championship last Thursday. The WHS girls cross country team finished third.

The WHS Girls Volleyball team snapped a losing streak that dates back to September last Tuesday night as they took on Circle and Winfield on Senior Night here in Wellington. The first match was against Circle where the Lady Crusaders dropped both sets.

The Wellington girls golf team qualified for the State tournament for just the second time in school history. They finished 2nd in the Regional hosted in Wellington last week The Lady Crusaders finished just one stroke behind Winfield. Wellington shot 370 as a team through both rounds.

The Wellington Lady Crusader tennis team traveled to Winfield over the weekend to compete in the 4A state tournament. Wellington was represented by two doubles teams, Lyric and Cruz Cornejo and Logan Robinson and Kadynce Aufdengarten.

The Wellington Crusader football team won their most exciting game of the season at McPherson last Friday as they scored in the final seconds to get their third straight win. Wellington started slow as they fell behind 14-3. They fumbled at the 20 on the second play of the game and McPherson led 7-0. After punting the ball away, the Crusaders got their first big turnover of the game, an interception by Colton Bannister that resulted in a field goal to cut the lead to 7-3.

After not winning a league championship in the first five years of the program’s existence, the Wellington Girls Golf Team won their second straight Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Championship last week in Derby.

The Wellington Girls Tennis Team created some double trouble for their opponents at the Regional meet. Sisters Lyric and Cruz Cornejo won a Regional Championship in Doubles and the Wellington Girls Tennis team edged out Pratt to come home with the Regional Championship.
