After ending their season at the class 4A state playoffs with a 31-28 loss to Winfield last season, the WHS football team is ready to move on. “I’d say in that game too many turnovers and a lot of personal fouls towards the end of the game it kind of hurt us,” said junior tightend and defensive-end Brody Weir.
With a young group last year, new Head Coach and Crusader alumni Mandy Ramos said her team made many improvements during the 2022-2023 season. Some of those highlights included a close league game against defending class 4A Champions, Andale.
Senior Riley Nichols is ready to start his final year at outside linebacker for the WHS Crusaders football team this fall. And, he’s coming back with some new found confidence after being invited to participate in the NCSA High School Football Showcase in Dallas for two days this summer.
Dogs took their best friends for a final summer swim at the Wellington Family Aquatic Center to close out the pool’s 2023 season. With everyone headed back to school this week, including most of the lifeguards and the pool’s summer workers, dogs of all ages, sizes and pedigrees enjoyed the special occasion to dive into the cool water.
Owen Camblin, age 12, started the 7th Grade at Wellington Middle School this week after completing a full summer of swimming. Camblin was the only swimmer from Wellington to participate in the Central Zone Championships held at the Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center in Lenexa, KS, August 3 - August 6, 2023.
The Wellington Heat received the #1 seed in the Summer Ball Showdown Tournament last weekend. They went 4-1 in the tournament and ended their season with a 5-3 loss to the New Lenox Pumas in the semi-final game on August 6th.
