
Sailsh Close Swim Season with League Finals

Wellington High School 2023 graduate Malachi Rogers played in his last High School football game at the 50th Kansas Shrine Bowl on July 15th at Lewis Field Stadium on the Fort Hays State University campus.

His motivation, “Everyone is always going to be sick and it’s a good job to have. I enjoy helping people.”
The Wellington Sailfish finished up their regular season in Winfield on July 11th with several more Sailfish swimmers qualified for Districts. Due to the large number of swimmers on Winfield’s team, Winfield won the meet 556-162.
While the 123rd Annual Kansas Wheat Festival was going on, the Wellington Heat added to the fun by playing several games. On the weekend of July 8-9th, the Heat split with its opponents.

Gwen and Bill Stalcup have hosted Wellington Heat players in their home since 2014. The Stalcups decided to host players to give back to the community after others let their son stay with them.
With a bye week from league competition, the Wellington Sailfish took on the challenge of achieving their team fundraising goal of $5,00.To help with that effort, they host their first ever Sailfish Swim-AThon.
With league finals coming up, the Wellington Sailfish are focused on taking down their goals one by one. They competed in their final home meet of the season against the 3rd largest team in the League, the Haysville Piranhas.
The high school hosted camp for the Lady Crusaders high school and middle school volleyball teams. There were 35 girls that participated in the middle school camp and 30 that participated in the high school camp. WHS Head Volleyball Coach Mandy Ramos was pleased with the turnout, especially the middle school camp.
