The WHS boys golf team had a slow start to its season this year. However, eventually their hard work paid off. The Crusaders were named the AVCTL IV Champions at League and also won the Class 4A Regional Tournament.

Wellington’s own collegiate summer baseball team, the Wellington Heat started league play in the Kansas Collegiate Baseball League with some hot bats and a couple of comeback victories. They played against the Dirtbags, Mud Daubers, Rangers, and the Moos.
Both the WHS softball and baseball teams had several players named to the AVCTL Division IV All League Team. Four players from the Crusaders baseball team were named First Team.
The Wellington Heat is back in town for another exciting season of college level baseball at Hibbs-Hooten Field. Last Friday, the team started their season by giving the WHS baseball team a small taste of what it is like to play college baseball.
The WHS track and field team qualified 16 athletes to compete at the Kansas State Track and Field meet held at Cessna Stadium. The Crusaders competed in several running and field events last Friday and Saturday.
Senior Jensen Lynnes made high school a memorable experience. Her best advice for surviving high school; “Get involved.” Lynnes participated in National Honor Society, WHS Student Council, WHS Band, Business Professionals of America, Tennis, and Swim Team. She also received multiple scholarships.
Brooke McCorkle Earns Dean’s List at the University of Evansville Wellington native Brooke McCorkle has been named to the University of Evansville Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement during the Spring 2023 semester.
Loren Hibbs, a 1979 Wellington High School graduate, led the Wichita State baseball team to its first 30-win season since 2018. The Shockers finished 3rd in the conference standings, claimed five American Athletic Conference series, and swept No.7 East Carolina.
