With the high school football season kicking off in just over 10 weeks, the Wellington Crusaders have started summer camps in preparation for the 2025 campaign. The Dukes are coming off of one of the most successful seasons of the last two decades and started camp last week, with a seven on seven contest with Goddard.
Congratulations to Wellington High School head baseball coach Ryan Jenkins, who was recently named the 2025 Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division IV “Coach of the Year.” Jenkins led the Crusaders to an impressive 19-9 season and a trip to the Regional Championship game. .
Wellington 12-year-old track athlete Nyah Eckermann has advanced to the regional level after a strong showing at the AAU Missouri Valley Kansas Qualifier for Track & Field in Topeka last week. Eckermann earned fourth-place finishes in both the 200-meter dash and long jump, along with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash, securing her spot at the next level of competition.
Wellington hosted the inaugural Explode Into Summer softball tournament last weekend, welcoming 16 teams across the 8U to 14U divisions. Local squads made a strong showing, with both the Pink Ladies and Wellington Rebels earning 2nd place finishes.
After starting the season 1-2, the Heat opened week two with a win over the Winfield Moos. The Heat used 14 runs in a high-scoring affair to pick up their first win of KCLB play.
Putting an exclamation point on the Wellington baseball season, the team earned thirteen Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division IV All-Team selections.
The Wellington boy’s golf team wrapped up their season at the 4A State Golf Tournament in Newton at Sand Creek Station Golf Course. The course plays up the town’s railroad history, as several holes bordering the railway.
