The Lady Crusaders ended their stellar 2023 season with a 40 – 71 loss to Kansas City based Bishop Miege High School. The girls never stopped fighting, staying within striking distance of the Stags until the third quarter.

The boys sub-state basketball game against McPherson tipped off at 6pm on Wednesday, March 8th. The Bullpups beat the Crusaders by a final score of 71 – 49, but there were exciting highlights.

“ Crusader magic! “ HEAD COACH JOE NEWMAN WHS Boys Basketball Headed To State For The First Time In Eight Years Wellington beat Circle 65-41, solidifying a trip to the KSHAA Boys Class 4A State Basketball tournament in Salina, Kansas. “I certainly didn’t predict that coming in,” Newman said.

Wellington High School hosted the 2023 Kansas 4A State Powerlifting Meet last Saturday. The boys team scored 41 team points and placed fifth out of 13 teams.

The 2023 girls wrestling season is over for the Lady Crusaders but they ended it on a positive note. Junior Aubrey Hunt and sophomore Kaylee Horinek competed at the KSHAA Class 4A Girls State Wrestling tournament in Salina last weekend.

STATE TENNIS AND TRACK QUALIFIER SIGNS WITH BETHANY Three sport athlete Kami Reichenberger signed her national letter of intent to play tennis and compete in track and field at Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS on February 24th.

The girls basketball team finished out their regular season last week with a final record of 19-1. On February 21st, Wellington solidified a lofty win against the Collegiate Spartans for the second time this season.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER WILL COMPETE AT THE NCAA DIVISION II LEVEL What started out as something to do to suppress boredom turned into a future for senior Hunter Lough. Lough will stay close by and attend Newman University to compete for their Men’s Cross Country team. Newman is a private Roman Catholic university located in Wichita, KS.

The boys basketball team lost to the Wichita Collegiate Spartans by 22 points in January. Last week, it was a different scenario for the Crusaders.
