The boys basketball team dropped two non-league games last week although their overall record is still above .500. On January 31st, the Crusaders lost a close game to Augusta 57-51 that came down to the wire.

Childhood friends Malachi Rogers and Montel Tate will continue playing football together at Butler Community College next fall. “We’ve played football together since little league so I was like why split it up,” Rogers said.
With five more games left on their regular season schedule, the Lady Crusaders remain undefeated. On January 31st, Wellington played at Augusta and beat them 56-22.
The WHS girls wrestling team just had a very successful week.They were named AVCTL IV League Champions, beating Clearwater 60-0. Next, the Lady Crusaders competed in a wrestling invitational at Remington.
Sophomores Rome Hunt and Ralph Cornejo competed with the Winfield Vikings boys swim team last week at Campus and Emporia. Winfield placed second out of six teams at the Campus meet scoring a total of 494 points.
The Lady Crusaders remain undefeated after winning the Mulvane Wildcat Classic over the weekend. The team has now won two consecutive tournaments this season, beating Mulvane 39-23 in the championship game.
The boys and girls powerlifting teams competed in their second virtual meet of the season last Saturday. As a brief reminder, a virtual powerlifting meet is hosted at each competing school’s own weight room.
Wellington High School has two male swimmers that participate in KSHSAA spring meets. However, there is a catch. These two swimmers, sophomores Rome Hunt and Ralph Cornejo, compete for the Winfield Vikings because the Crusaders do not have a boy’s swim team.
They didn’t keep score as a team, but the WHS girls wrestling team came away with some top place finishes at their home tournament over the weekend. Schools participating included Andale, Andover Central, Bishop Caroll, Buhler, Chaparral, Cheney, Circle, Clearwater, Derby, Eisenhower, Ell-Saline, Goddard, Haven, McPherson, Mulvane, Rose Hill, Wichita East, and Winfield.
