After leading most of the Championship game, the WHS boys basketball team came up short in the final seconds against Circle at the Chaparral Roadrunner Classic. The Crusaders lost the game by just one point with the final score 49-48.
The high school powerlifting team had their first meet of the season last Saturday. However, this meet had a slightly different format. Instead of hosting other schools at WHS, the powerlifting team had a virtual competition.
Down by five at halftime last Friday night, the Crusaders fought back and came out with a win against last season’s Class 3A State Runner-up, Andale by the score of 52-48. Senior guard Banks Hinshaw scored a team high 17 points.
The WHS boys and girls wrestling teams recently competed at the boys and girls Varsity Invitational at Rossville High School. The girls team placed 2nd out of 17 teams with 121 points.
The Lady Crusaders picked up their third AVCTL IV win of the season last week and are now 8-0. The WHS girls basketball team beat Clearwater 56-34.
The Crusaders winning season is still alive after a hard fought game against Clearwater. The WHS men’s basketball team beat Clearwater 57-50 in two overtime periods.
The Wellington High School and middle school Esports teams just wrapped up their first season. Both the WHS and WMS Esports leagues sent their teams to postseason play.
The Wellington High School football team soundly beat Circle last fall 45-35. Prior to that loss, Circle was 5-1 and ranked number six in Class 4A.
The community and local businesses rallied around the Wellington Heat baseball team last summer with increased attendance and lots of interactive activities between games. The team finished Kansas Collegiate League play with a 16 – 16 record while keeping players in shape and ready for their college teams this fall.
During half time, the WHS Duchess candidates were escorted on the field for the coronation, accompanied by their young attendants. Heidi Gulick was crowned Duchess during the ceremony.
