For the first time in school history, the Crimson Dancers were invited to perform at the KSHAA Game Day Showcase Competition. The competition was held in Topeka and the dancers competed against nine different teams in the Class 4A division.
With five returning seniors in the lineup, Wellington High School’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach Joe Newman is excited for the upcoming season. The Crusaders return seniors Banks Hinshaw, Montel Tate, Malachi Rogers, Jack Wright, and Cope Henry.

It’s been several years, but Powder Puff football has returned to Wellington High School. “They had it a couple of years ago, not sure how many, and then they quit doing it,” Athletic Director of Wellington Schools Elly Johnson said, “So we brought it back!” Girls from every grade at WHS had the opportunity to play a flag football game at Sellers Park last Thursday.
The Wellington High School cheer team recently competed in the Battle of The Squads competition at Wichita Heights High School. The competition includes high school and middle school cheer teams from across the state with each team performing a 2.5 minute routine.
Senior Jensen Lynnes finished her high school tennis season placing fifth in doubles at the Class 4A KSHAA State Tennis Tournament this year. Her success continues as she has just been named a Heisman High School Scholarship Competition Award winner.
Several Wellington High School student athletes that participated in fall sports received postseason awards. Athletes from volleyball, cross country, girl’s golf and girl’s tennis were honored on the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division 4 (AVCTL IV) All League list or on the Class 4A All State List.
The Wellington High School Girls basketball team placed fourth at the Class 4A State Tournament last season and finished with an impressive 23-2 record. Ask Head Coach Eric Adams to talk about his team and he’ll describe their winning culture which is what he wants to get back to this upcoming season.
There’s no doubt that the Wellington High School football team had a tough schedule this year. The Crusaders opened up their season against one of the top Class 4A teams in the state of Kansas, Andale.
