By Emmie Boese The Wellington boy’s cross country team placed tenth overall at the Class 4A State meet in Wamego, Kansas at Wamego Country Club last Saturday. Senior Hunter Lough was the top individual finisher for the boy’s team.
Malachi Rogers, number 2, is a three sport athlete. He plays football, basketball and has decided to participate in track his senior year.
The Wellington High School football team is 5-3 heading into the playoffs. “The kids really responded this year and have done well so it’s fun to see them get some success and get rolling,” Head Coach Jeremiah Meeks said.
The WHS volleyball team ended their 2022 season in the first round of sub-state play against Clay Center. They lost 0-2 (10-25) (19-25). Head Coach Mandy Ramoswas proud of the team and felt players had made a lot of improvement this season despite an early exit in postseason play.
Sophomore Taylor Earl missed qualifying for the Class 4A State Cross Country meet last year by just three places. Instead of hanging her head, she made it her goal to qualify this season and she did just that by placing eleventh at the Class 4A regional meet.
The men’s cross country team took second place overall at the Class 4A regional meet on October 22nd. Next, the Crusaders head to the Class 4A State meet at Wamego Country Club this weekend.
The Wellington High School football team is now 4-3 under the leadership of first year head coach Jeremiah Meeks. Last Friday night, week seven, may qualify as their largest feat so far this season as they soundly beat Circle.
The volleyball team went 2-1 in a triangular last week at Circle High School.They also played in the Varsity Invitational at Clearwater High School and went 1-2. The Crusaders lost to Circle 0-2 (15-25),(18-25) who is ranked number two in Class 4A on Oct.
Members of Cowley College’s Livestock Judging Team traveled to Kiowa, KS, to help set up classes and judge the presentations of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H Club participants. This event put the Cowley Team members on the officiating side instead of participating as contestants, helping them hone their skills by judging Beef, Swine, Sheep and Goats.
It’s been 51 years since the last league title, but the Wellington High School men’s cross country team just won the AVCTL IV League title for the second time in school history. The Crusaders beat second place Collegiate by 12 points with six runners from the men’s team medaling.
