e Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in the Commission room of the Sumner County Courthouse. ose present were Chairman John Cooney, Commissioner Steve Warner and Commissioner Jim Newell. Also present was County Clerk Debra A. Norris. e meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. e Commission reviewed and unanimously approved minutes of December 2 and 3, 2024. Community Corrections Director Brad Macy, District Court Administrator Candace Giefer and 30th Judicial Chief Judge William Mott discussed funding for a new preventive program, Drug Court. A request of $77,000 from the Sumner County Fights Addiction fund was reviewed. A copy of the client handbook and procedures was presented to the Commission. After review and discussion, the Commission authorized $40,000 to be used to begin the program, funding to be provided through an opioid settlement.
Cowley College and Southwestern College have announced a partnership that creates a seamless pathway for Cowley students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. is agreement marks a milestone in addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in our region. It provides students with a clear roadmap from earning an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Pre-Nursing at Cowley to completing their BSN at Southwestern. e 2+2 program allows students to spend two years at Cowley College before transferring to Southwestern College for the nal two years. is structured approach ensures students can focus on their studies while progressing toward their nursing careers.
