Fort Hays State University’s Docking Institute recently released its annual “Kansas Speaks” survey, presenting insights from 645 adult Kansas residents on a variety of topics, including quality of life, the economy, elected officials, election integrity, artificial intelligence, and a wide range of public policy issues. The survey results indicate a more optimistic view of the Kansas economy than in the past three years.
Many residents have enjoyed local baker Anna Ewing’s decorated sugar cookies and other baked treats, and this week, there’s a chance to help her take her business to the next level. Ewing has entered The Greatest Baker competition, sponsored by Hoboken, NJ-based Carlo’s Bakery, home of pastry chef Buddy Valastro, also known as the “Cake Boss” on TV.
There were plenty of ghouls, goblins and zombies haunting the Trigger Guard Graveyard as the range hosted its annual “3 Gun Zombie Match” last Saturday. The competition featured four frightening stages and costumes were encouraged.
Caldwell hosted its fall Market of Farms event on Saturday at the Caldwell Community Building, drawing vendors from across the state to sell fresh beef, pork, poultry, eggs, honey, and jams directly to customers.
The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session in the Commission room of the Sumner County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman John Cooney and Commissioner Jim Newell. Commissioner Steve Warner was absent.
A recent census report for Fall 2024 enrollment, released by the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR), indicates that Cowley College now serves 2,248 students, reflecting a 3.8% increase compared to last year. The college’s Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) enrollment also saw a 6.1% rise from Fall 2023.
With the upcoming hunting season, Wellington Lake campsites are required to move by October 26th, with the exception of Old West spots 1 thru 14B and Shade Campground spots 96 thru 109.
