Handcrafted Sign Welcomes Shoppers

There’s a new splash of character and color downtown, as earlier this week crew members from Corcoran Consulting, Dan Cornell and Jason Ratzloff, installed a handcrafted, custom-made sign for This N That Emporium at 108 South Washington Avenue. The sign, designed and carved by General Contractor Dwayne Corcoran, reflects the same care and creativity that has gone into the restoration of the building itself.

Drug Court Offers New Path

From the Sumner County Courthouse’s South Courtroom—where his only previous option was to issue jail time—Thirtieth Judicial District Court Judge William Mott, alongside Sumner County Community Corrections Director Brad Macy, shared both progress and hopes for the county’s new Drug Court program. This past January, the Sumner County Drug Court began accepting clients.

Evergy Hosts Open House on Transmission Line Project

Recently, Evergy welcomed landowners and community members to a Public Open House at Cowley College’s Community Room to discuss the Buffalo Flats–Delaware 345 kV transmission line project. The event was well-organized, and Evergy staff were on hand throughout the evening, greeting attendees, walking them through maps, and answering questions with patience and clarity.

No Plans to Close Local FSA Office

The Sumner County USDA Service Center, located in Wellington’s Raymond Frye Complex, remains open and serving the community. The center houses the Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Rural Development offices, providing farmers, ranchers, and residents with essential programs and support.

NWS to Rehire Hundreds 

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has received approval to fill 450 positions at the National Weather Service (NWS), including several in Kansas that were impacted earlier this year. Approved roles include meteorologists, hydrologists, and radar technicians.

Flag Program Update

The Kiwanis Club has officially passed its Flag Program to the Wellington Noon Lions Club. As in previous years, the service includes placing an American flag at your residence from sunrise to sundown on five national holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.
