Due to the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday, May 27, 2024, the Landfill, Recycling Center and Compost Site will all be closed. Monday’s commercial refuse collection will be completed on Tuesday.

Extension Office The K-State Research & Sumner County Extension Office has partnered with Cowley College to host a series of “Farm Talk” programs to provide current information relevant to local farmers and ranchers.
On Monday, May 20th, the Wellington Street Department will begin spraying for mosquitos and will continue the task throughout the week. The areas covered include: Monday, May 20th: A Street - West of Vandenburgh Wednesday, May 22nd: B Street - South of Harvey from Vandenburgh to Woodlawn Friday, May 24th: C Street - North of Harvey from Vandenburgh to Hargis Creek Watershed Normal spraying hours are from 6 – 9:30pm.
Youths aged 14 or 15 planning to do farm work for someone other than a parent or guardian, are required by the U.S. Department of Labor to take a tractor safety course.
The Sumner County Historical & Genealogical Society is hosting “The Trail of Tears: The Indian Removal Act of 1830” a free presentation by Jason Felihkatubbe on Monday, May 20th at 6:30pm at Cowley College.

By the 1890s, long before Henry Ford’s Model T made motor-cars commonplace, bicyclists started demanding paved roads. They were joined by farmers who wanted passable roads to get their families and their goods to town, and along with city and country folks from all over, which started the “Good Roads Movement”.
