A group of farmers, ranchers, and legislators recently gathered in Manhattan to discuss healthcare issues facing the ag industry with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly. They shared stories about long wait times, a lack of mental health resources and discussed how giving thousands more working Kansans access to health insurance could address these challenges.
The Cowley College Board of Trustees convened their October Board meeting last Monday in the Short Community Room on the Sumner Campus in Wellington. Following the Board meeting, the Trustees took questions from the audience.
The Sumner County Health Department is now scheduling appointments for FLU and Prevnar/ Pneumonia vaccinations. These vaccinations prevent illnesses, medical visits, hospitalizations, and deaths.
For the last two Wednesdays, the Cowley College Livestockjudging Team has helped local FFA programs by serving as officials and reason takers at the Southern Kansas Regional contest. The students traveled to Barber County for the Livestockjudging Contest and helped with the South Central District FFA Dairy Contest.
The Sumner County Community Drug Action Team (SCCDAT) conducted their Annual Meeting last week in the Community Room of the Short Education Building on the Cowley College Sumner Campus. The organization meets annually to inform and update their three boards as well as coalition members.
Dinner in a Pumpkin 1 medium pumpkin 1 onion, chopped 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 lbs ground beef or turkey 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 4 oz can sliced mushrooms 1 15 oz can of cream of chicken soup 1 8 oz can of water chestnuts 2 cups cooked rice (I use wild rice) Cut off the top of the pumpkin and scrape out the pulp and seeds. In a large skillet sauté onions in vegetable oil until tender, add the meat and cook until brown.
This week, local manufacturer Pinnacle Aerospace joins the Greater Wichita Partnership and other aviation industry leaders at the 2023 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas.
Weather permitting; the City of Wellington Street Department will begin crack-sealing the following streets on these dates; Wednesday, October 18th: Westborough Addition, all streets West of Circle Street and Western Avenue to Crestview Road Thursday, October 19th: “B” Street from 15th Street to Harvey Avenue.
