The March 21st,2023 City Council meeting began with Audience Participation. Stacy Davis, Executive Director of the Sumner County Economic Development Commission, reminded Council members about the upcoming Rural America Regional Frum to be hosted April 4 and 5th at the Kansas StarEvent Center.
During the March BOE meeting, the board discussed the athletic facilities survey results, provided an update on the Scooter’s land lease and the Business Professionals of America requested the board’s support to travel to California for their national competition.
For the second year in a row, Powder & String Outfitters, Wellington’s local full-service firearm shop, attended the exclusive Shot Show in Las Vegas. Owner Kip Etter was excited to return to Wellington with the newest vendor and product information.
A field survey for a proposed U.S. 81 bridge replacement just south of Wellington will begin around January 30th, 2023. The proposed project spans Slate Creek, 1.5 miles south of the south junction of U.S. 81 and U.S. 160 highways.
George Fox University, located in Newburg, Oregon, has selected Wellington’s downtown Heritage Plaza for a special class project. Students will be working on behalf of our community by providing their diverse expertise on this real-world enterprise.
B. Strange Products and Brian Strange’s exquisite silver work was featured in our October 18th, 2022 issue. Now, his business is expanding. There’s a new “B. Strange Products” banner in the window at 108 North Washington and the company has some exciting new projects in the works.
We place a lot of importance on reading to children and having books available for them to read. There are times, though, when we fail to recognize the importance of books for the elderly and differently abled. Why is it important?
Your dog will look super cool in his new 2023 City of Wellington Dog Tag! The annual registration fee is just $3.00 for a spayed or neutered dog, or $6.00 for unaltered dogs. To complete the registration, make sure to bring your dog’s proof of rabies vaccination with you. The 2023 City of Wellington dog tags can only be purchased at City Hall, 317 South Washington Avenue. Accidents and injuries can happen anywhere, anytime and odds are that the person right next to the injured individual is the one that can make a big difference. To help bring life saving skills to more citizens, the Wellington Fire/EMS will be conducting a free class for the public on Tuesday, January 24th at 6pm at the public safety building, 200 North C Street.
