Bales' Visit to Greenwood Offers Insight into Tulsa Race Massacre

When Sunni and Jim Bales signed up for Cowley College’s Golden Tiger day trip to Greenwood in Tulsa, OK, Jim had some background knowledge of the area’s history, thanks to stories from his grandfather. “He had family in the Tulsa area, and he mentioned that there were race riots back in the ‘20s, or at least that’s how I remember him describing it,” Jim recalled.

WBJ Honors Ratliff 

Wellington High School 2011 graduate Erma Ratliff was recently recognized by the Wichita Business Journal as a Young Professional in Technology, Innovation, and Education. Erma serves as the Community Engagement and Events Coordinator for broadband provider Kanokla, where she works to strengthen the connection between the company and the communities it serves, including Wellington.

Evergy's High Efficiency Natural Gas Plant in Sumner County

On March 5, 2025, the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) held a public hearing to review Evergy’s request for a predetermination of ratemaking principles related to its plans to build two new combined-cycle natural gas plants and recently acquired solar generation facility. The company is seeking approval to recover some of the costs of these projects from customers.
