Wellington SRO Honored as Kansas D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year

In addition to assuring the safety of Wellington students, School Resource Officer Leslie Allen has spent more than her fair share of time in funky costumes, braved the dunk tank, and teamed up with costumed characters—all in the name of building trust with youth. Last week, Allen’s extraordinary efforts to connect with young people were recognized by the Kansas Juvenile Officers Association (KSJOA), which named her the 2025 Kansas D.A.R.E.

Storefront Celebrates Wheat Festival History and Local Artists

As Wellington honors the 125th anniversary of the Kansas Wheat Festival, the newest addition to downtown retail is joining in the celebration with a special display. This N That Emporium, located at 108 South Washington Avenue, is hosting a front-window exhibit featuring Wheat Festival memorabilia curated by the Chisholm Trail Museum, including a video presentation highlighting the festival’s long-standing history.

Local Paramedic Earns Prestigious Award

Wellington Firefighter/Paramedic Bradley Robinson has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a global recognition that celebrates the exceptional, compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day. The award was presented by William Newton Memorial Hospital, where Robinson serves as a Registered Nurse/Paramedic in the Emergency Department.
