Billy Bob “Bud” Thornton and The Boxmasters were about to take the stage in South Carolina at the first real honky-tonk on their “The 2024 Love & Hate Tour” when Thornton reminded me to emphasize that they are a “loud rock and roll band!”

Did this wooden apparatus mystify you? It probably should confound many as it is part of a mostly obsolete practice. This item goes hand in hand with last week’s funeral ribbon door adornments as it is an antique cooling board used in home funerals.

Founded in 1946, originally “Tonka” was named “Mound Metalcraft” which was a garden tool company located in Mound, MN and operated out of an old schoolhouse.

On August 29th, local musician and artist Skeet Sirmons was injured in a bicycle accident, resulting in a spinal cord injury that requires an extended stay in a rehabilitation facility in Lincoln, NE.
