Question: We have a larger bay window in our 1970s home and are wondering if adding a window seat would work for our age of home. GH: As the weather starts to cool down, a window seat is a cozy and charming feature that can enhance any room.

If last week’s sports cards didn’t trigger that childhood memory part of your brain, then maybe this Duke of Hazzard lunchbox will! In a previous article, we talked about how lunch boxes started as promotional tobacco tins in the late 1800s, but the quintessential lunchbox that comes to mind didn’t get their start until 1935. Who other than Mickey Mouse should appear on the first character themed lunchbox?! Although fun and cartoon themed lunch boxes started being made during this time, it wasn’t until after World War II they started to become so popular they became a staple in American school lunch rooms.

Did this bring back memories from your childhood? Perhaps you are still an avid collector? Maybe considering a new hobby? These collectible pieces of cardboard are football cards! In the 1880s, “trade cards” were printed advertisement “prizes” that also functioned as a cardboard stiffener inserted into flimsy cigarette packs. Advertising of other products morphed into printing encyclopedic designs of things men were interested in as they were the main demographic for cigarettes at the time.

“Warning!” is a word we often see printed on packaging now, but before packages told us to pay heed, we were much more lenient on the types of toys our children played with and this antique model toy steam engine is indeed one of those toys. In various forms, toy steam engines were a popular children’s toy from the 18th century through the 20th century.

Buzz From the Beehive
The Saint Anthony/Saint Rose Catholic Church and the Beehive Quilt Shop will be hosting their 3rd annual Quilt Bingo event Sunday, September 29th, 1 - 4pm at Memorial Auditorium. This year, proceeds will be donated to the Knights of Columbus Building Fund.

Question: My hallway and living room are dark and I want to brighten them up with some natural light. Pm considering adding a skylight or a suntube, but I don’t know which one is better for my situation. Can you please explain the pros and cons of each option?
