Do you recognize this boy?

Family members have turned to the Wellington Daily News for help solving a decades-old mystery. They are searching for a boy who entered the Kansas foster care system in January or February of 1991 — and they believe someone in our community might hold the key to finding him.

His birth name was Jackson Shelman Sawyer, born in Wellington on August 22, 1990. Dr. Lawrence Will was the attending family physician. At just 7 months old, Jackson was removed from his mother’s care by child services and is believed to have been adopted.

His birth mother, Tammy Lynn Sawyer (later known by her married name, Tammy Lynn Davis), passed away in 2024. Before her death, she was determined to find the son she never stopped thinking about. Now, Jackson’s siblings — and his aunt, Jami Thomason — are hoping the community can help.

“My sister was on a mission to find her son before she died,” Thomason said. “I’m sure, being a baby, he must have been adopted by someone.”

Today, Jackson would be almost 35 years old. No one from his birth family has ever been in contact with him. They want him to know not only that they care — but also that there is a family history of heart disease they feel he should be aware of.
