Lucious Homer Hutchinson, known to all as ‘Hutch’, passed away late Thursday evening, March 28, 2024 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Hutch was born the son of L. Homer and Elizabeth (Farley) Hutchinson on June 18, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas. His father passed away when Hutch was a young man, his mother eventually married JD Webster, who loved the family as his own.
Hutch was a devoted, diligent and dedicated working man his entire life. In his younger days he worked as a roughneck and even attended welding school shortly after high school. These skills served him well throughout his entire life. Hutch was an excellent welder and mechanic, who honed his skills and abilities working side by side with his father at Hutchinson Lawnmower Shop in Wellington, Kansas. If it had two or four wheels, a straight six or a big block V8, Hutch was always the right man for the job. He was a born mechanic at heart and felt at home when he was out in the garage. Hutch also worked for many years as a custodian at the county courthouse.
Life wasn’t all work and no play, Hutch fondly remembered trips to California in his younger days to visit his sister and take his daughter, Michelle, to Sea World. Hutch had a never-ending sweet tooth and his family knew all too well that desserts left out for the night probably would not make it till morning.
This was especially true for his favorites: cherry pie or peanut M&M’s. He knew what it was to work long and hard which made him treasure the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. Hutch will be missed by all that knew him, as they knew he would drop everything at a moment’s notice for someone in need.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Michelle Lasater and husband Jason of Oxford, Kansas, grandchildren: Tyler Davis, Nina Porter, Chevelle Porter and Hudson Porter; sister, Mary Townsend and husband Alan of Texas and sister, Darlene Farley and husband Kendal of Topeka, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his father, L. Homer Hutchinson; his mother and step-father, Elizabeth and JD Webster and his son, James Lee Hutchinson.
A celebration of life is being planned as cremation has taken place. A private burial will eventually take place in the Milan Cemetery, Milan, Kansas.
Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
